Cumberland University Tennis Team

Women's Tennis at Cumberland University looks to continue its steady progression in 2008. The women's tennis team is in the capable hands of fifth-year Head Coach Bill Riddle. The addition of former CU player Luiz Miranda as the women's assistant coach will definitely enhance the leadership and outlook for the program.

The Lady Dawgs return four starters from the 2007 team that finished last season ranked No. 25 in the nation and was ranked among the Top 25 all season. The 2007 team went 18-9 with a Regional Championship appearance and reached a season-high ranking of No. 16 in the country.

Led by local standout, TranSouth Player of the Month and All-Conference Second Team singles and doubles player Emily Jacobs, this year's team looks primed to improve once again on last year's performance. Beatrize Mompo from Spain and Mt. Juliet native Danielle Madson, both All-Conference Second Team singles players, will anchor a team that adds three impact players. Freshman Amber Johnson of Franklin, Natasha Yakomovich of Belarus and Rahab Mbugu of Kenya round out the new additions to the line-up. Kristin Goodman of Murfreesboro, the team's only senior, adds strength and depth to a team that is still fairly young.

The Cumberland University Men's Tennis Team look to improve on their 2007 appearance at the NAIA National Tennis Championships with the addition of three new players to the spring 2008 roster. Transfers Slava Glebov and Roger Phantanak, with incoming freshman Sebastian Jonsson, will add not only new faces but new depth to the CU line-up.

The Bulldogs open the season in January on the road at Austin Peay State University, followed by a series of home matches indoors at Nashboro Village Athletic Club. This season marks Head Coach Bill Riddle's fifth season at the helm of the Bulldogs, and he sees the team getting stronger and deeper each year.

The 'Dawgs play host to the TranSouth Conference Tennis Tournament April 17-18 and then the Region XI Tennis Championships on April 24-25.
